Identity is the no.1 events agency in the UK spearheading a portfolio of World class events across the Corporate and Public Sector space. These include high profile events such as G7, Nato Summit and Cop26. 

Currently going through an exciting period of growth and change we are now looking for an experienced HR Manager to join the People and Culture team on a permanent basis. The role is overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the HR and Recruitment functions and team members.

This includes leading the HR function, acting as a business partner and providing support and guidance to the HR Coordinator in HR related matters and to drive the talent acquisition agenda in the business ensuring that solutions meet the needs of the business.

Please note this role requires the person to be in the Eastbourne office at least 3 days a week.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


  • Manage, guide and mentor the HR and Recruitment team ensuring they have all the tools required to perform their jobs effectively
  • Develop clear objectives with the team for the HR and Recruitment functions, assign actions and monitor progress
  • Act as business partner to HODs and Managers ensuring that their needs are understood and appropriate guidance, signposting or support is provided
  • To work with the L&D Manager/ Hiring Managers to develop a robust process to introduce and launch apprentice, graduate and intern schemes
  • To act as the deputy for the People & Culture Director in her absence
  • To carry out project related work across the function when required


  • Provide guidance, advice and best practice in employee relations matters, triaging cases to the HR Coordinator as/when appropriate
  • To ensure the employee lifecycle process (including onboarding and leavers) is streamlined and consistently applied
  • Produce monthly statistics (and reports as/when needed) identifying trends and putting plans in action to address concerns
  • Gather and evaluate market data to measure the organisation’s competitiveness for salary reviews, compensation and benefits packages
  • Keep up to date with UK employment legislation
  • Alongside the Learning and Development Manager create and deliver training to managers on people management skills
  • To develop an ED&I strategy for the Company that will truly drive a diverse and inclusive culture
  • To develop engagement initiatives in partnership with other stakeholders (e.g. the Staff Forum) which are meaningful and help us to progress to being a ‘great place to work’


  • To work closely with Hiring Managers to understand recruitment needs, both present and planned
  • Work with the Recruitment Team to develop relationships with key agencies (PSL) ensuring that they understand and represent Identity’s services, vision and values when recruiting on our behalf
  • Ensure that appropriate terms and conditions are agreed with both job boards and agencies and reviewed on a regular basis
  • Ensure that new suppliers are onboarded prior to use and that service standards are reviewed regularly
  • To continually review and improve the recruitment process and ATS including ensuring that the ATS contains up to date JDs and salary bands for all roles
  • Work with the People and Culture Director and Marketing Team to establish and maintain the employer brand ensuring that Identity attracts the best talent from within the industry
  • To ensure that Social Values commitments are adhered to when recruiting and during employment (e.g. Disability confident)

Skills and Experience:


  • Previous demonstrable experience managing a HR and Recruitment function
  • Experience of adopting a business partner approach, collaborating with internal stakeholders to reach a conclusion and producing solutions which are in line with business needs
  • Strong management skills ensuring that the team have clear direction and understand support available to them
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen and effectively articulate ideas or solutions
  • A solid understanding of the key principles of employment law (including relating to recruitment) and an appetite to keep up with industry trends
  • Experience in using an ATS and HR systems for end-to-end recruitment, onboarding and reporting
  • Ability to manage a budget and ensure that costs incurred provide a good return on investment / are value for money
  • Has moral courage; is comfortable ‘pushing back’ with managers on processes and takes unpopular stands if necessary
  • Can negotiate skilfully in tough situations and settle differences without damaging relationships
  • Demonstrates a high level of attention to detail
  • Use time effectively and efficiently. Concentrates efforts on the priorities whilst overseeing the day-to-day delivery of team activities
  • Maintain professional internal and external relationships that meet company core values


  • Previous use of Harbour ATS and/or bob
  • CIPD level 7
